CHICAGO: Pitchfork Music Festival 2007, Part I

Last weekend, I was in Chicago with Ilirjana from Apache Beat and Edward for the Pitchfork Music Festival. Was hoping to actually see some live music this year, since the 2005 Intonation fest was too hot to leave our jacuzzi suite, and last year′s Vice Festival, I was a loser and just got drunk on Sparks in the VIP area. I saw about 5 minutes of Bloc Party, a bit of The Streets, and I think that was about it.

So, yay, I saw some bands for real this time, including Jamie Lidell (pictured above, looking like a homeless genie), De La Soul, Clipse, and a couple more. That′s really the only band photo I got since I didn′t feel like elbowing my way into position, and I didn′t realize til much later that the press/photo pass let me go into that little pit up front with all the "pro" photographers. Oh well. Next time. Dan Deacon, Deerhunter, and Battles are gonna be huge though, I hope.

Overall, the festival was pretty fun. Props to the Pitchfork people, who ran a fairly smooth festival, and a standing ovation for the Chipotle people for their machine-like efficiency in keeping the free-burrito line moving.

Oh, my favorite part of the weekend was when I was in the bathroom at the official afterparty and heard some guy talking to his friend, "I hope you don′t get the impression that Chicago is always like this. It′s just a bunch of ASSHOLE NEW YORKERS here." I brought it up with Fluxblog, who was also there, and he goes, "I didn′t really find the crowd particularly asshole′ish or full of New Yorkers. He was probably just talking about you and Ilirjana." Great, thanks.
