this is a school example of things that look great on skinny models on the catwalk but when an average person puts them on without extreme make up and accessories it looks completely banal.

I think those are Balenciaga sandals... Funny, I *just* saw them on Fashion Toast (she's wearing them, first pic on the 1/21/10 post).
