Street Style Recap: Thursday, April 9th 2009:

Here's another photo of Jean-Paul Paula -- a Street Peeper favorite, for sure. A bit controversial for wearing a bit of womenswear, like heels, sparkly gold jackets, etc, but he was in the NY Times Moment Blog along with Bryan Boy and Yu Masui for doing it. Anyhow, here he is at the Tuileries in Paris wearing that gold sparkly jacket that one of the commenters says is MARIOS SCHWAB, but I thought he said it was VINTAGE -- but I could be wrong. He's also wearing a pair of ZARA heels and the infamous MARTIN MARGIELA anonymous sunglasses.

Also in Paris is another Street Peeper favorite, Agnes. I'm not sure what she does, but she's always at the good shows during Fashion Week. Maybe a stylist. She's got on a black MARTIN MARGIELA jacket with RICK OWENS boots, and a black PRADA fringe bag. In NYC are stylist Keegan Singh in a RICK OWENS leather jacket with jeans and boots from TRASH & VAUDEVILLE, and Refinery29's Piera Gelardi in a KAREN WALKER jacket and skirt, with shoes from DOLCE VITA, and a VENA CAVA scarf. Cory is in SF wearing all PAUL SMITH (he works at the store), and Jeremiah is in Melbourne wearing a black shirt from Swedish label POUR along with skinny black jeans from local label, HEM & HAW.

Street Style Recap: Wednesday, April 8th 2009:

This girl totally has the goth-horror look totally down... A really expensive goth-horror look with nearly head-to-toe RICK OWENS paired with a bag from CAROL CHRISTIAN POELL. I love it.

I thought the next girl was also wearing RICK OWENS, but her grey leather jacket was actually from HAIDER ACKERMANN. She's wearing it with a big black scarf, black ANN DEMEULEMEESTER boots and the BALENCIAGA motorcycle bag. Also in Paris is a dude outside the HERMES show wearing a grey felt jacket and cardigan combo with purple and blue lining, with purple jeans, multi-color metallic PIERRE HARDY high-top sneakers and an HERMES scarf. In NYC, we have a woman in a camel colored coat, and Susie Bubble outside my apartment building in a fuzzy fringe TIM RYAN skirt, black WOLFORD tights, white creepers, and a grey GAP x MULBERRY bag. Last, is a woman in London in rolled-up boyfriend jeans.

Oh boy... I saw the title of this video on, and thank God I'm not anywhere in it in the background. But anyways, people sometimes ask me what its like doing street-style photography at Paris Fashion Week, and this clip is a good introduction to the madness outside the Tuileries, Place Vendome, Palais de Tokyo, Carreau du Temple, and other Paris fashion show venues. I've been doing Paris Fashion Week for 5 or 6 seasons now, and though the number of photographers has multiplied, I can always count on seeing a few friendly (and also not so friendly faces).

(Left: Maybe she's a French celebrity since these photogs are more paparazzi-type, than street-style photogs. Right: Julia Frakes from Paper Mag and Bunny Bisous)

I'm usually hanging out with Tommy from Jak & Jil and Pete from Superfantasticpicturetime & Elle US, with Stylesightings Eddie dragging editors and models halfway across the park for the "perfect" shot, Scott Sartorialist and Garance Dore floating around, Altamira Craig catching off-duty models for TeenVogue, Kemal from Style & City who smiles up in my face then posts photos of me and Jak & Jil referring to us as "Japanese photographers always ruining his shots"... And then there's Vicki and Harriet from Grazia and Elle UK who we love, and then George (or was it Johan?) from some Dutch magazines, and redhead Geraldine who I've seen for years but have barely spoken to, and a French woman who always wears drop-crotch pants, that old guy with the jacked-up teeth who always scares away the models, a pair of unpleasant Frenchwomen who are like vultures, and then of course the legion of Japanese photographers as seen in the video...

(Some things I'll get on my knees for, but definitely not for a photo of a pair of shoes...)

BTW, did Anna Della Russo really just refer to herself as "regular people" in the video?

Street Style Recap: Monday, April 6th 2009:

OK, so I love crazy prints, if you haven't noticed by the hundreds of photos on here of BERNHARD WILLHELM, JEREMY SCOTT, and other kooky finds, so I'm super jealous of this guy's VINTAGE cartoon'y village/cloud/huh? print shirt. And I even love the even-more cartoon'ish puffy hat! I don't think I could leave the house with that on, but I'm so happy that there are those who do. Oh, and I can't forget about the cloud-print puffer jacket from OLD NAVY and the blue PUMA sneakers. I can't wait to go back to Tokyo.

Elsewhere, we have Peaches Geldof in a great textured leather MULBERRY jacket over an animal print DOLCE & GABBANA dress with a disco ball'ish plated bag, also from Dolce. Also in Paris is a woman in some pretty interesting pants -- but I didn't get a chance to ask her who made them. In NYC is a dude in a PRIESTESS leather jacket, baggy sweatpants, purple high-tops, and neon sunglasses... And Patrik in a VINTAGE leather jacket over a black fur vest, white RAF SIMONS shirt, and a pair of crazy DIRK BIKKEMBERGS boots. Another dude in a fur vest is in London.

Street Style Recap: Friday, April 3rd 2009 :

I was visiting family in Chicago around Wicker Park, and saw this dude and his friend named London across the street and literally chased them down two blocks to get their photos. Here's Griffin, stylist, in a black leather H&M jacket with grey wide-legged FOREVER 21 pants, and a shitload of great accessories.

In Paris, I have a photo of Carine Roitfeld in the GIVENCHY goat-fur coat that PETA members tried ripping off her during Paris Fashion Week, and also casting-director Natalie Joos in a great floral print skirt. In NYC are Tess Brokaw, in a green plaid NOM DE GUERRE jacket with black ballet flats and a BALENCIAGA bag, and also Ivan in a DIOR HOMME leather jacket with red and white RAF SIMONS high-tops with baggy jeans and a DIAMOND SUPPLY sweatshirt. Also, there's Simon in Melbourne in a VINTAGE top, blue WRANGLER jeans, and a Vintage bag.

Street Style Recap: Thursday, April 2nd 2009:

I'm a sucker for cape/coat things. I bought a couple last fall, but I never got around to wearing them... But here's Daniel in London in a pretty cool brown'ish VIVIENNE WESTWOOD cape/coat thing, black CHEAP MONDAY jeans, and black VIVIENNE WESTWOOD boots with wood platforms.

In NYC, there's a girl at the RODARTE show in mostly vintage, and Dazed Digital and style blogger, Susie Bubble, in a TSUMORI CHISATO dress, stripey MARNI jacket, floral print leggings from BASSO & BROOKE, with a pair of vintage FERRAGAMO flats. In Paris, there's Kim with a great PRADA sleeveless coat/poncho/cape thing, a tie-dyed scarf from AMERICAN APPAREL, ZARA bag, and floral print DR MARTENS, and Julian with the clasic BURBERRY trench coat over a great grey chunky cardigan from THE GAP. Then there's a dude in Tokyo with a RICK OWENS leather jacket and a BALENCIAGA bag.

Street Style Recap: Wednesday, April 1st 2009:

Paris Vogue's Emmanuelle Alt, at the Hermes show in Paris, looking a bit pissed-off (probably tired of all the photographers, sorry!) keeping warm in a grey ISABEL MARANT shearling coat, black BALMAIN leather trousers, and ISABEL MARANT studded boots.

In NYC is Chloe Kerman of Tank Magazine in a stunning mint green LOUIS VUITTON coat and a green print PRADA dress. I wish I got a better photo, because the coat is really absolutely beautiful. Also in NYC is a dude in a black ATTACHMENT belted coat/robe thing with black jeans and the shiny black LANVIN high-tops. Back to Paris, there's a woman at the Place Vendome wearing mostly black, but with a pair of black/grey plaid plants. Across the Channel in London, we have a girl in a yellow TOFU raincoat over a grey-tshirt that slouches kinda interestingly, with grey CHEAP MONDAY jeans, red OFFICE heels with discreet white polka dots, and a blue TOPSHOP clutch.

Street Peeper Recap: Monday, March 30th 2009:

Here's Carrie Mundane, designer for CASSETTE PLAYA in Paris after the JEREMY SCOTT show. I wish I could find my notes for this, so I don't remember who made the jacket. But it had some pretty intense leatherwork done all around it. Carrie also is wearing a pretty outrageous KOKON TO ZAI dress, with pink leggings, and pink NIKE sneakers.

Anna Della Russo is in a Parisian courtyard wearing the black/silver BALMAIN marching jacket, and I'm wondering if anyone besides fashion editors actually owns this thing. In Tokyo, we have a girl in all black, with an interestingly textured black cardigan from a Japanese designer along with black AMERICAN APPAREL leggings and a black BALENCIAGA bag. In NYC, there's a girl in a red plaid coat from THE GAP and metallic gold FRYE shoes, and a girl outside the New York Public Library in a blue DIANE VON FURSTENBERG jacket with blue wide-legged LEI LEI pants. Last, we have a dude in London in a blue velvet jacket and torn up jeans.

Street Style Recap: Friday, March 27th 2009:

Here's Fanny and the Cave outside the Doors Jas MB store. She runs a great London showroom. Anyhow, I love her black fur BLESS hood/scarf thing over the black RAF SIMONS sweater dress thing with the silver MARTIN MARGIELA chain belt thing, and her Margiela slouchy boots. Oh, and the blue/black stripey CHRISTIAN DIOR leggings! She's one of my favorite people in London.

There's a man named London -- also one of my new favorite people in Chicago -- in a black lip cut-out JUNYA WATANABE coat over an URBAN OUTFITTERS t-shirt and blue LEVI'S cut-off torn up denim shorts, and a shitload of accessories including an ALEXANDER MCQUEEN skull scarf wrapped around his black BALENCIAGA bag, some fingerless gloves, and KENNETH COLE boots. Eleanor from Sweden is in Paris looking chic in a black RODEBERGER coat and wide-legged NAKKNA pants. Also in Paris' Place Vendome is a young man in a black ZARA trench coat, pink LANVIN high top sneakers, and a grey LOUIS VUITTON bag. Matthew Harris in NYC in a black vintage LANVIN fur vest over a red plaid shirt, black CHEAP MONDAY jeans, and carrying the upside-down YSL tote-bag, and Aya has on a VINTAGE leather jacket, CHANEL skirt and bag, black SUPERFINE jeans and a pair of CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTINS.

Street Style Recap: Thursday, March 26th 2009:

I'm always impressed by people who love a designer so much, they'll go as close to head-to-toe in it as possible. Mostly seems to happen in Japan, and with labels with cult followings like COMME DES GARCONS or BERNHARD WILLHELM, but here's Yakushi in Tokyo wearing a couple pieces from last season's JEREMY SCOTT collection -- the cherub jacket and the pictureframe print pants, along with shoes from Japanese label, DIET BUTCHER SLIM SKIN.

In Paris is Emma Veronica Johansson from Sweden in a VINTAGE jacket with amazing shiny gold TOPSHOP UNIQUE pants and black shoes from BIBA. Also in Paris is a woman outside the Valentino show in a brown fur coat with a FENDI bag.'s Josh Peskowitz is in NYC with a PRADA coat, blue MARTIN MARGIELA pants, TIMBERLAND boots, and the red piggy-print/keffiyeh HENRIK VIBSKOV scarf, and Susie Bubble is in a floral print MISS SELFRIDGE'S leggings.
