Street Peeper Picks: Toni Hacker of HAYDEN-HARNETT: Tuesday, March 17th 2009

This week's Street Peeper picks comes from Toni Hacker, creative director and founder of Hayden-Harnett -- the Brooklyn apparel, accessories, and shoe brand that's blowing up a little bit in 2009. Toni was born in Kentucky, and spent time in Ohio, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and Hong Kong before settling her nomadic tent in New York City in 2002, and began to focus on a life of fashion and leather love...

Hayden-Harnett is available online at their own official website, as well as their two brick & mortar shops in Greenpoint and Nolita, NYC. You can also find it at other retailers like Nordstrom, Anthropologie, and 100+ international boutiques. Oh, and the Target collaboration is long-gone, but you might be able to score one of the cheap & chic covetable bags on eBay. OK, so here we go -- Street Peeper gets the inside scoop on why Miss Hacker is obsessed with hair and man bags:

HER: "Lady in Leopard" - I love how this outfit reads so modern and ladylike at once. I collect vintage coats, so I'm supremely jealous of this find. This is the right way to wear leggings and fingerless gloves together. Great bag and shoes, plus I'm dying over the platinum white pixie cut. Mrrrow!
HIM: "Happytown USA" - This is seriously one of the happiest people in one of the happiest, jauntiest outfits that I've ever seen. Usually snappy dressers look a bit serious... not Colin. Only he could pull of the fab purple jeans with bowtie and suspenders. I might switch out of the crazy Fluevog'esque chess king shoes for some natty nude nubucks or white wingtips, but otherwise this outfit is making me smile a lot. That's a gift.

HER: "Fancy Pants" - This is the best use of harem pants I've yet to see... It's very tricky to rock these appropriately. The buttoned-up white shirt, vest, neat hair, and patent heels make this a "yes ma'am".
HIM: "Magritte's Hat" - I totally love his hat. It fits him perfectly and turns this casual outfit into a really great look. The YSL single button jacket is amazing and I wish I owned it in 4 colors. The pops of blue in his shirt and laces give such an artistic flourish and shows much soul. I'm VERY curious to know what his bag looks like. Is it even a bag? It looks like he might tote around matches or a pet nightingale that sings for his supper.

HER: "Junglicious" - I haven't seen the labels MCM, Liz Claiborne, and Calvin Klein together in quite awhile... At least a decade. The vintage shirt is such an amazing print and just the right length. The hair is magnificent and the chain belt seals the deal.
HIM: "I Am Here to Change Your Life" - If I were in Paris and saw this guy, I would stop whatever I was doing to follow him the rest of the day and night. Take me to your leader and please show me where you bought your jacket and impeccably tailored trousers. The scarf and shades are icing, but his hair is the candle that lights the cake.

HER: "Jeneane Garofolo's Stunt Double" - I love this look for the simple fact that she's wearing Katharine Hamnett -- my fashion idol. The Run DMC chain, leather jackt, and cool 12th Street flats give this super-casual look humor and ups the "I can do anything in this outfit -- even be Jeneane Garofolo for a day" quotient.
HIM: "Sponge Bob in Furs" - Again, the bowler hat thing that I love so much right now! Not only does he own that, but he has a rad fur coat that I hope is faux AND a just-right Sponge Bob peeking out to keep it real. I love his boots and bag.

HER: "Can't Touch This" - Wow! I'm a bonafide child of the 80's, and this outfit is blowing my mind, The violet lace cowlneck sleeveless top with the crazy graphic leggings, yellow ankle socks, and simple white sneaks is totally an outfit I've always wanted to wear, but never had the cojones to do so. 100 point bonus? The slight waterfall to the volumized hair... Awe. Some.
HIM: "Pour Some Sugar On Me" - Bunny's got it going on! I love the tiiiiighter than tight acid wash jeans, the sleeveless denim jacket with the collar flipped up, the black and white slit graphic tee, the black leather moto jacket, and the black paddock boots (mine are brown and I'm still at a loss how to wear them...) I am such a sucker for amazing hair and THIS is amazing hair. Bunny looks like my geeky goth academic team pal all grown up and gone cooler than thou after we parted ways at the Skid Row gig in 10th grade. This is why I love New York.
